A group of 23 Grail Associates gathered at Waxwell on Saturday 18 October for what proved to be a very interesting and enjoyable day.

The Core Group had arranged the day with great thought and care, allowing time for catching up with old friends, as well as for benefiting from Esther Gordon's input.

Esther Gordon, one of the Grail Community, ran the day. Her theme was 'Prophecy'. She pointed out that the meaning of prophecy as used in the Old Testament is more 'the inspired speaking of the truth' rather than 'the foretelling of the future'.

There was a most interesting half hour of Bible study. The discussion afterwards was lively and varied. The relevance of the words of the Old Testament Prophets to present day problems struck everyone.

A substantial lunch of soup with cheese and fruit was served in the dining room. After lunch it was back to the library to reflect on who are today's prophets.

Mass was celebrated by Father Billy Hewitt SJ, brother of Jessica Hewitt, a Grail Community Member who died last year. He told us that he had celebrated his very first Mass in the Grail chapel at Waxwell.

This was very special day for the Associates and will be long remembered.
